Team SOCOM wins the Bronze medal at the 2012 WTC volleyball tournament at the Pentagon. A total of six teams participated this year, The Army team won the gold, followed by Team Simper Fi. Team SOCOM defeated the Marine team, as well as the Air Force and Navy teams.
 

The SOCOM Team Members are:

September 13, 2012, Sgt. 1st Class LeRoy Petry, Medal of Honor recipient with LoAn at the the Special Operations Warrior Foundation's Tribute to SOF
 
 
 
September 8, 2012, Senior Master Chief Morrey Grymes III retired from the Washington Air National Guard at Camp Murray, Washington
 
Senior Chief Grymes combat operations span three decades. In 1980 he was deployed off the coast of Iran during the attempted rescue of U.S. Embassy personnel in Tehran, Iran. In 1990-1991, he deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His most recent combat deployments (2002 - 2010) were with the 116th Air Support Operations Squadron as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller and with the 194th Air Support Operations Group (Iraq/Afghanistan/Pakistan). Senior Master Chief Grymes, in his role as a JTAC, provided close air support training, close air support and terminal guidance for SOF operations / units / teams from the 3rd, 7th and 19th Special Forces Groups during OIF/OEF.

Grymes, a former Marine, served as both a Security Police Specialist and Tactical Air Command and Control Specialist with the Washington Air National Guard.

Senior Master Sergeant Grymes, SGM Steve Walter (75th Ranger Regiment) and SSG Kenny Walker (116th ASOS) were also presented with individual awards of the Native American Nations Medal of Valor during the retirement ceremony. 9Line/Akimeka thanks Marshall Tall Eagle of the Apache Nation and CSM (R) Louis H. Rothenstein (Military Intelligence Corps) for approval of the award recommendations and provision of individual certificates and awards. Care Coalition Wounded Warrior Advocate Greg Walker presented the awards on behalf of the SOCOM Care Coalition Recovery Program.

Wounded Warrior Tom Yarbrough and Care Coalition Advocate Greg Walker visited in northern Idaho where Tom is continuing his recovery, rehabilitation and education.

May 10, 2012 - 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment Combat Awards Ceremony at Ft. Lewis
 
LTC David Hodne, the battalion commander for 2/75, presented 30 Rangers, many of them combat wounded, with individual Army Commendation Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medals, Purple Hearts and one Silver Star. Many of the awards had "V" (Valor) devices included. LTC Hodne offered he believes it is important for the Public be offered the opportunity to join in the acknowledgement of courage, sacrifice and valor as represented by the Rangers he commands.

The battalion itself was awarded the Valorous Unit Award. This award denotes "...extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy of the United States...". LTG John F. Muholland, Commanding General of the United States Special Operations Command, presented this award as well as a Silver Star for heroism to SSG Sean Keough, 2/75th RGR BN.

USSOCOM Care Coalition Recovery Program Wounded Warriors turned out to support their fellow Soldiers during the event.

(Top Right) SSG Oskar Zepeda (R) was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds and injuries when a suicide bomber detonated his grenade as SSG Zepeda attempted to gain control of the terrorist in close quarters.

April 19, 2012 - Ms. Lisa Nantz, formally Care Coalition and now with the Special Operations Warrior Foundation at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
 
CCRP Advocate Greg Walker and Ms. Lisa Nantz of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Ms. Nantz advocates for Family Services and Financial Aid for the SOWF and is a long time dear friend of the Care Coalition and Care Coalition Recovery Progam.

SOF injured soldiers Alfredo Delossantos, Nathan Cruz and Ivan Castro represents the US injured soldiers in Colombia 11k to race awareness of the problems with land mines in this country. Alfredo took 3rd place on the handcycle division.
